Human Resources Business Partner

POSITION TITLE: Human Resources Business Partner
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Direct Supervisor: Commandant of Cadets

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Serves as an individual contributor and must be a self-starter with a well-rounded HR generalist background who is responsible for the oversight and the administration of employee records, tracking, and updating. Maintain and create policies, and programs regarding all VF employees. Responsible for coordinating programs for the following: Full cycle recruitment, employment on-boarding, benefits, salary, retirement plan enrollment, and other employee benefits coordination.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to internal/external requests for data to support a variety of initiatives. These requests include employee lists for report completion, and data tracking to ensure completion of routine work and annual reporting requirements to satisfy a variety of functions including retirement compliance.
  2. Conduct research and stay abreast of institutions programs and recommend changes or innovations where desirable or necessary.
  3. As necessary, prepare; publish Staff Memorandum and directives regarding staff and benefit policies.
  4. Develop, implement, and administer plans, policies regarding personnel:
  5. Ensure compliance of all departments of institution with government mandated requirements for employ of staff and with institution’s policies and interpret such policies for executives;
  6. Administer wage and salary standards/policies in coordination with Cost Center Heads; coordinate preparation of salary budgets with Controller.
  7. Establish, implement, and administer benefits programs in coordination with Payroll Administrator, including such programs as sick leave, benefit enrollment, billing, renewal, etc.
  8. Maintain employee current/past records re employment dates, length of service, awards, current staffing roster, promotions, teaching service, absences, etc.
  9. Administer employee performance appraisal program, track reviews and address any performance deficiency.
  10. Provide information regarding miscellaneous internal publications pertaining to staff – e.g. telephone directory.
  11. Oversee open positions, post positions, and manage applicant tracking and ensure onboarding is completed and new hire is successfully added to payroll.
  12. Coordinate the administration of employee safety and health (workers compensation)
  13. Establish and administer programs for recognition of employees.
  14. Coordinate institution’s hiring and termination policies and procedures:
  15. Solicit and interview candidates for employment or assist Department Heads with it; as required, conduct necessary follow up actions to employ candidates;
  16. Ensure reference checking and hire of staff, as required; prepare employment letters and ensure background check completion.
  17. Coordinate communications within departments regarding, resignations from staff; prepare memoranda, manuals, letters Coordinate with legal counsel, department heads, Commandant of Cadets and President regarding suspension and termination policy and procedures.
  18. Ensure understanding of all VF benefit programs to all employees, including regular, routine, and special communication endeavors to assure employee knowledge regarding all programs.
  19. Handle or assist in handling coordination of certain employee special events planning such as Employee Recognition Ceremony, faculty/staff/support personnel functions, etc.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors Degree required in Business or Human Resources. PHR preferred

Experience: Three-Five years previous Human Resources background experience; strong writing, communication, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a HRIS data management system. Experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus.

Academy Biology Teacher

Position:  Biology Teacher
Schedule: Full Time, 10 month position
Department: Academy
Reporting to: Head of School
Education:  Bachelor’s Degree required with PA Teaching Certification desired

Instruct middle school and high school students using various pedagogical methods. Prepare course objectives and outlines of study following curriculum guidelines and the requirements of the academy. Assign lessons and assesses student progress, records results, and issues regular reports to administration. In support of the college preparatory academic program, to provide instruction and other academic activities that will enable the students to succeed in the next grade or higher level of education. As part of the boarding school model of education, to coach, advice, counsel, support or otherwise help, encourage and motivate cadets to achieve success both inside and outside of the classroom. In support of the character development program, is to serve as a motivating role model and to provide instruction to assist the cadets in their development of strong moral and ethical values. As part of the militarily structured system, promote the establishment and maintenance of high standards of cadet decorum and discipline.

Responsibilities:
Instruct assigned class schedule.
Study Hall Supervision as scheduled.
Contribute to the efficient management and administration of the Academy as required.
Participate and attend in Faculty Meetings, Department Meetings and In-Service Days.
Attendance is mandatory for Academy & College Professional Development Day.
Maintain academic records, grades and lesson plans.

Qualifications:
Experience: Ideally, the candidate would have a minimum of three years teaching High School Biology, professional experience in the Science field.

Academy Head Wrestling Coach

Nature of Job:

General Job Description:

The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for planning and directing the conditioning, training, and performance of student athletes, along with the reinforcement of the core values of Valley Forge Military Academy.

Nature of Work:

This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics. This is a professional head coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the Federal/State Department of Education and the PIAA Organization.  Employees in this job class may be subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract which is typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.

This position directs a staff of Assistant Coaches who have specific responsibility for training, coaching, mentoring, and directing the activities of assigned student athletes. This work may include coaching in outside areas, hot and cold weather, and exposure to elements such as rain, snow, dirt, fumes, and loud noises. The duties require moderate to active physical activity, handling of weights and objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, and standing or walking more than four hours per day.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following list provides examples of the most typical duties for positions in this job class. Individual positions may not include all of the examples listed, nor does the list include all work that may be assigned to positions in this job class.

  • Direct Assistant Coaches and Graduate Students in the overall planning and execution of the PIAA football program.
  • Work with the Admissions Department and Athletics Office to follow up on all leads or inquiries coming from potential student athletes, parents, alumni, admissions or athletic office personnel. Prospective students should reflect the highest qualities of academics and character necessary to fit into the regimental system and responsibilities.
  • Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
  • Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
  • Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with Department of Education and PIAA Organization guidelines.
  • Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques.
  • Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
  • Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for student athletes.
  • Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities for the specific sports program.
  • Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, alumni/public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Ensure adherence to all Department of Education PIAA, and league rules by athletes and supporting staff.

Qualifications:

Education:       A bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree preferred

Experience:     Prior head coaching experience at the high school and or college level, HS and or College playing experience a plus, knowledge of PIAA Organization rules and guidelines.

Other/Special: Must have good communication and supervisory skills, the ability to make decisions   under pressure, maturity, and a commitment to the school value system. Ability to engage Alumni and parents into fund raising is essential.

Archery Instructor

Lifeguard

JOB DESCRIPTION: Valley Forge Summer Camp is seeking enthusiastic, energetic and mature individuals to serve as lifeguards. This position will report to the Pool Supervisor and will adhere to all rules and codes of conduct set forth by VFMAC.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain a safe environment for our pool.
  • Most have a current lifeguard certification.
  • Communicate with campers and camp staff.
  • Perform swim tests for campers.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by either Pool Supervisor or Summer Camp Director.

Lifeguard will be responsible for the guarding and safety of members within the facility, and enforcing all pool policies and procedures. Applicant must be responsible, punctual and task oriented. Applicant must also be able to communicate with children ages 3-17 and adult members of staff.

Math Instructor

JOB DESCRIPTION: Valley Forge Summer Camp is looking for a qualified Math Instructor for their academic enrichment elective program located on the grounds of Valley Forge Military Academy & College. Instructors are needed for a 5 week duration, June 18th – July 20, 2018 and their schedule will be from 8 am-noon daily. Instructors will teach in a small group setting, no more than 8 per class, and must be comfortable teaching children between the ages of 6-17 years old.

Competitive salary and a fun work atmosphere. The Math Instructor must be adaptable and provide the camp office with a copy of their lesson plans. Instructor will also do a pre and post evaluation on each student enrolled in the academic enrichment elective program.

REQUIREMENTS:

Overnight Camp Counselor

JOB DESCRIPTION: Valley Forge Summer Camps are seeking highly motivated and passionate Overnight Camp Counselors for the 2018 Camp season! Counselors will function as an integral part of the Valley Forge Summer Camp team working with boys ages 9-17 years old. Valley Forge Military Summer Camp counselors will work with campers and assist in coaching them in a variety of sports, leadership and fitness activities.

Overnight camp counselors will report to the Camp Commandant and will adhere to all rules and codes of conduct set forth by VFMAC.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be able to live on campus between June 16-July 20, 2018.
  • Experience coaching youth athletes in a wide variety of sports and fitness activities.
  • Knowledge of child development and willingness to work with children of all ages and abilities.
  • The physical ability to perform the sports and training sessions they will be leading and modify to all levels.
  • The ability to communicate verbally to individuals and small groups.
  • Assist campers with goal setting.
  • Create a safe environment in which all campers; regardless of age or fitness level, can strive towards achieving their fitness goals.
